Barbies at Low Price

Toys R Us is going to quit its business from Amazon.com (press) and is doing a closeout sale to clear its stock. Below are some cute barbies we bought at very low prices (around $5 each).

The First Christmas in the New House

post_xmastree.jpgWe bought a Christmas tree for our first Christmas holiday in the new house. It is a 7.5 ft prelit artificial tree from Amazon. After my wife's hours of fluffing and decorating, the tree is, simply put, gorgeous :D

I would like to take this chance to say "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!" to all relatives and friends of the family and all visitors to our web site. Wish you a happy year-end and good luck in the whole new year!

JiHe.NET Turns Four (and Two Days Exactly)

Just out of coincidence, I noticed that my web site jihe.net is four years and two days old already (ref) !

Simply put, this is still (and always) a small personal hobby site; yet I am so thankful to YOU, all the visitors for making this possible. Also I would like to thank my web hosting company DifferentHost for its sponsorship and technical support.

Lastly while most importantly, I would like to thank my wife Lucy for not disliking me upon her first glance at my (ugly) online pictures ;) Thank you Lucy, and may the web site grow with our love and the family :D

Spammers Love Me (and My Domain)

Today I received an email from Watson, the manager of the my sponsoring web hosting company, which said:

"I believe your domain is having a huge spam problem. Did you enable catchall once/previously? The emails are coming to random email address @jihe.net. ... The amount of spam hitting all your domain is almost 1GB/day..."

1GB per day? That is by average 500 - 1000 spams every single day! I am so thrilled that spammers all around the world start to love my domain, despite of every measures I tried to "hide" myself from them. If they are listening, I would like to send every one of them a single-trip ticket for free as the Christmas gift. That ticket brings them to the place named h.e.l.l.

Updated Blog System (and MoveableType is My New Friend)

I know this has been overdue for a long time, but finally I managed to migrate all my old blogs to MoveableType v3.2.

Compared with my old friend WordPress, MoveableType provides some unique features such as static html page generation and visual template switching through StyleCatcher (although I must say that installation of StyleCatcher presented a challenge to me -- thanks Earl Fogel!!).

Hopefully I could have enough time to migrate the rest of my web site such as the programs and data sets downloads. So guys stay tuned (and I will be back after a short commercial break...)

Missed the First Chance of Becoming a Millionare

I am delighted to learn that one of the biggest search engines in China, baidu.com, went public at Nasdaq last Friday, Aug 5 2005. Its stock price is about 127 USD now (press news). I somehow feel a little pity for not accepting their offer with 10k stock option in last year. Should I decided to join Baidu at that time, I could be a millionare some day :D Anyway life is always dynamic and there is yet a long way to go in my career path. While I missed this first chance of becoming a millionare, I believe with my profession and continuous self-improvement, I could have a more insightful and foreseeable view of the market and won't let another chance to slip way.

As said, to encourage myself ;)

Life is Fragile

Last evening, a security of our Foundation, former sheriff of the county, Mr. Bill Noland, passed away following a two-car accident which happened on Sam Noble Pkwy, just downstair of my Plant Biology building (link 1, link 2). I am so stunned by Bill's sudden death. Life is so fragile. May he rest peace in the heaven...
